12th Joint Transnational Call: European innovative research & technological development projects in nanomedicine

What can microfluidics do for nanomedicine?

The 12th EuroNanoMed joint transnational call about nanomedicine will target 3 areas, for which the use of microfluidics is highly relevant:

Regenerative medicine

One of the objectives of regenerative medicine is to decipher the causes of the tissue damage, and to better understand the reparation mechanisms. Microfluidics, and in particular the tissue/organ-on-chip technology, allow to reproduce a human tissue on a chip, with a very precise control of the cell’s microenvironment, the possibility to create gradients, and to monitor in real time different parameters. It is the perfect technology to tackle the challenges of regenerative medicine.

Diagnostics

Microfluidic labs-on-chip are perfectly suited for diagnostic applications. They require a very small volume of sampleand their sensitivity is usually increased compared to traditional analysis methods. The results are obtained in a few minutes with almost no human intervention and without cumbersome lab procedures. The diagnostic process can be automated and portable, and thus, it can be performed easily anywhere.

Targeted delivery systems

Microfluidics offers a very precise control of the flows. This is a particularly relevant technology for the generation of monodisperse droplets or micro/nanoparticles or the synthesis of complex microparticles (core-shell, hollow spheres, Janus…). These structures can be the basis of your controlled delivery system.

What can the MIC do for your EuroNanoMed project?

The MIC can bring its expertise in microfluidic instrumentation and flow control to help you develop your research project’s microfluidic innovation! We have already participated in more than 30 European projects to help our partners develop systems suited to their projects.

More specifically, we can:

  • Design portable solutions for the on-site perfusion of your lab-on-chip
  • Assist you in the automated generation of perfectly controlled vectors for targeted drug delivery
  • Develop user-friendly platforms for the continuous or occasional perfusion of your organ or tissue on a chip
  • Design the flow control solution suited for your project

The MIC already brought its microfluidics expertise into many research projects:
