This position has recently been filled, but we invite you to regularly check our careers page for new job openings!

Descriptive title: Optimization of a manufacturing process for thermoplastic microfluidic chips with complex architecture for bacterial observation.

  • 12-month fixed-term contract
  • Desired start date: September 2024

You will join the MIC research and innovation team, with the aim of optimizing and validating an architecture and manufacturing protocol for a thermoplastic chip for bacterial observation.

The position includes a small simulation and CAD component (chip design) and a larger experimental component (chip manufacturing). The chip will incorporate a complex architecture (several fluidic layers, membranes, different materials, etc.) and must meet microbiology requirements (biocompatibility, compatibility with microscopy, etc.).

As part of the project Treatable funded by the ANR (Agence Nationale de la Recherche), this position will also provide an opportunity to learn about the workings of collaborative research projects.

Whether you have experience or not is not the most important thing for us. What counts with us is your mindset, your curiosity, your positive energy and your ability to learn!

Your missions:

  • Bibliographic study
  • Definition of specifications
  • Adaptation of a microfabrication process to a complex architecture
  • Study of the material compatibility with the needs of biology research
  • Optimization of chip manufacturing steps (printing, sealing, connectors)
  • Participate in the coordination of the microfabrication laboratory

Facilities available:

  • Laboratory for microfabrication of microfluidic chips in PDMS and thermoplastics (PMMA, COC, etc.)
  • Optical microscopes (quality assessment of microfluidic circuits)
  • A microfluidic test bench (to test prototypes manufactured under real-life conditions).
  • A versatile and dynamic research and innovation team
  • The expertise of microbiologists (definition of specifications)
  • The expertise of our marketing and sales teams (defining specifications)

Required profile:

  • You have a Bachelor (Engineering) or Master degree with a strong component in materials, fluid mechanics, biotech or microfabrication.
  • Experience in microfabrication (small or medium)
  • You’re rigorous, autonomous, you like working and making magic at the bench
  • You enjoy discussing and communicating about scientific problems
  • You’re at ease in English
  • You have an appetite for high-impact, market-oriented research.
  • At the MIC, we like: people who take action, who are creative, independent, curious and team players. People who do more than they talk, people who are demanding of themselves but who take care of those around them. Those who question themselves, those who want an intense and contrasting life. Those who bring pastries.
