MIC at the Korea-EU brokerage event Consulting Forum on Cluster 4
MIC took part in the Korea-EU Horizon Europe Researchers Consulting Forum on Cluster 4, a two-day event held in Brussels on 15 and 16 September 2026. The forum was co-organised by the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF) and the Korea-EU Research Centre (KERC), under Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT. Its purpose was practical. It brought Korean and European researchers together to build consortia for the 2027 Horizon Europe Cluster 4 calls (Digital, Industry and Space).
Julia and Lisa from the MIC team were both there, and not only as attendees. On the strength of MIC’s Horizon Europe track record, the organisers asked us to help guide other researchers through the process.
Julia joined as an invited presenter, and Lisa Muiznieks took part as a facilitator.
The forum ran a series of matchmaking tables, each built around one specific Cluster 4 topic. Each table brought together a Korean researcher, a matched European researcher, and five or six additional participants, with an experienced Horizon Europe practitioner steering the conversation. Lisa facilitated the table on topic HORIZON-CL4-2027-01-MAT-PROD-22, “Innovative advanced materials and new production processes, reducing dependencies on Critical and Strategic Raw Materials”. Her role was to guide the consortium-building discussion, offer practical advice on proposal preparation, and lead the group through the Consortium Sessions and the Open Consulting Session.
Why does this matter?
For a Korean team eyeing the 2027 Cluster 4 calls, the hardest step is usually finding the right European partner to complete an eligible consortium. That’s where a specialised EU-based SME like MIC fits. Microfluidic and flow-based methods have a real place in advanced materials and cleaner production processes, and our proposal experience helps a consortium turn a promising idea into a fundable one.
